Prioritize!

Thursday, March 12, 2009 by Lisa Buckalew
It is that time of year again.  Time to look at ourselves and decide what is important and what is not.  I know to parents, employees, coaches, Sunday school leaders, caregivers it is often hard to put you first.  But now is the time.  Bariatric Surgery Costs, Causes of Obesity, Indiana Hospitals, Bariatric Weight Loss, Weight Loss Surgery

Prioritizing is a very hard skill to develop.  By nature women in particular put our name at the bottom of the to do list.  Those lists need to be updated!  If you’re not healthy, if you do not take care of you, who is going to complete the list of 90 items you try to complete on a daily basis.  PRIORITIZE!  Learn that you are a priority, start off small, and take thirty minutes every day just for your well being.

Take a yoga class, take a walk around the block, pull out that treadmill, or rowing machine.  March is Women’s Health Month and make your self a promise to change something small.  Bariatric weight loss surgery is a process that will change the rest of your life, but it is a tool just as the treadmill is a tool.  It will help you do a great job, but it needs to be used.  Start small and then take a bigger step.

Look for more prioritizing tips later in the week!

Hey Lisa, it is good to see you on this blog. Hey I have some questions that I really do not see anything written about and would like to email them to you. I was in Monday and had lost 90 lbs. total. I am almost done, ahead of the curve is what they say for someone who is only six months out. I should be elated about this but am not. I don't really like the way my body looks right now, I guess I am just not used to it. Is this the normal reaction?

It is a normal reaction from a bari view. IF you are having body issues, please make sure you follow up with one of our psychologists. You are changing at an alarming rate and it is hard to adjust. It takes a while for our minds to catch up with our bodies. I always tell everyone that we are not 18 anymore and it is a misconception that our body will go back to prelife looks. Make sure you do not let this run amuck without talking to a professional. We are trying to deal with so much. six months and 90 pounds YEAH!!!!! Please follow up with someone to help put everything into perspective . You have done an amazing job. hope to see you soon.

I agree with Lisa, you are doing a great job in losing weight! Additionally, you are doing well in identifying and writing about your current dissatisfaction with your appearance, because this could eventually be a source of self-sabotage. You are right in saying that you are not used to it yet; it is still very early in your journey. Be careful not to engage in either compulsively checking or compulsively avoiding body areas that are a source of dissatisfaction. At the same time, allow yourself to notice areas that you do find more appealing since losing weight, and, don’t forget, you are on your way to even better health!
