Before considering Weight Loss Surgery, you need to consult an Indiana weight loss doctor. One other thing you can do yourself is check your Body Mass Index or BMI. We have a great tool for BMI on the Clarian Health Web site.

Indiana Bariatric surgeons will calculate your BMI as well, but if you think you might be suffering health problems with obesity or obesity medical problems, this quick test will let you know where you stand.

I'm not sure how many of you have seen the December issue of Indianapolis Woman magazine, but Clarian Bariatrics was proud to be the presenting sponsor of a section about weight loss.
You can pick up a FREE copy at many Indianapolis area retailers and public places (i.e. hospitals, grocery stores, etc) and you can learn more about our program, stomach stapling surgery, myths about weight loss surgery, Indianapolis gastric bypass options and Indiana bariatric centers.

This was a really interesting story that has been making the rounds the past few weeks. A lot of times people overlook some of the long term problems caused by obesity, which in some cases could be the delay in starting a family.
If this article brings up any questions, feel free to contact me and I will have one of our Indiana bariatric doctors with
Clarian Bariatrics or a fertility specialist with
Clarian Fertility get in touch with you.
The link below will take you to the Reuters site, where you can read the full text of the article. Below is just the first two paragraphs:
Women who get pregnant after weight-loss surgery tend to be healthier and less likely to deliver a baby born with complications compared to obese women, researchers said on Tuesday.
An obese woman who has weight-loss, or bariatric, surgery also may increase her chances of getting pregnant in the first place by normalizing her menstrual cycles and hormone levels, the researchers found.Click here to read more!
Below are some more tips by fitness expert Erin Light. Erin is the owner of FIT-Biz! Wellness and a reporter for RTV6. Erin is an expert in Indiana weight loss and working with Indiana bariatric surgeons and Indiana bariatric patients to improve outcomes for those undergoing weight loss surgery. Enjoy!Moving through an exercise program gradually is crucial to maintaining a life-long

program. If you push yourself too hard too fast, you can increase your risk of injury and burnout, which can obviously ruin plans to make exercise a part of your lifestyle.
Plus, if you are exhausting yourself at every workout, you are more likely to build a negative attitude toward exercise in general. Think about it---if your workouts leave you tired and in pain, you are not going to look forward to that next trip to the gym. Exercise should energize you … not leave you dragging on the floor.
If you are very enthusiastic about starting a workout program and you have a hard time controlling your energy, try working with a personal trainer who can keep you at a steady pace. Remember that good form and technique combined with controlled movements are the best way to build your strength and power.
You should always listen to what your body is telling you and move at a pace that is comfortable for your fitness level. Build your love for exercise by accomplishing your goals step-by-step, so you can look forward to what lies ahead.
While trying to immerse myself in the world of weight loss procedures, I have signed up for A LOT of weight loss surgery news alerts. One of my favorite Web sites is the
Obesity Action Coalition, which offers tips to caregivers and patients. I saw this article and thought it was interesting for both Indiana bariatrics patients and Indiana bariatric surgeons.
Check out the tease below and then follow the link to learn more about this, and other, obesity related problems.
If you think liver disease is a problem mainly related to alcohol abuse, think again. The metabolic changes linked to obesity are now causing non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) in about 30 percent of the U.S. population. And since our obesity rates are climbing, we can expect further increases in liver disease in the years ahead.

The seminar was full of information regarding the different surgeries, pros and cons, lifestyle changes and basic steps to get started. When the seminar was finished we had the chance to speak with employees from Clarian Bariatrics. I instantly felt a warm sense of welcome and was astonished by the compassion of each person I talked to. The thought of discovering a place where people truly understood my situation and were eager to help was almost unbelievable.
The next few weeks I had long conversations with my husband and the reality of having surgery. We agreed that this would be kept between the two of us at this point. I was not ready to hear the reactions of my friends and family members because I just knew it would be negative. I had many hours of research and paperwork under my belt but I decided it would be in my best interest to attend support group. I wanted to hear the good, the bad and the ugly right from the horses mouth.
This decision was easier said than done! I had never attended any type of group meetings like this. The first night I decided to attend group I was as nervous as I was the day I entered high school! How on earth was I going to walk into a room full of people I don’t know? How will they accept an outsider? Will I be judged by my appearance? What do I wear? What do I say? Where do I sit? What the heck was I thinking?
Check back next week for more of my story! In the meantime leave me questions you have about anything including: Indianapolis Gastric Bypass, Gastric Bypass Surgery Cost, Indianapolis Bariatric Centers, Stomach Stapling Surgery and Indiana Bariatric Doctors.
Many of you may know that all weight loss surgeries for Clarian Bariatrics patients are performed at Clarian North Medical Center in Carmel. Well today, December 1,

I was lucky enough to be one of the individuals that helped open the hospital, and every year on this date I cannot help but think about how far we have come in just three short years.
One of the things that makes this birthday so great is that we have helped almost 450 individuals overcome obesity problems with the help of our Indiana weight loss doctors and staff at Clarian North.
Thank you for your continued support of Clarian North and our Indiana bariatric center!
In the coming weeks, I will be posting some tips by fitness expert Erin Light. Erin is the owner of FIT-Biz! Wellness and a reporter for RTV6. You hold the ingredients that make a healthy lifestyle. Health isn’t found in a magazine or book…it comes from the choices you make and how you value them.
Someone once said the definition of madness is doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results. This same concept is true when following a life-long exercise program---you will surely go mad if you do the same workout your entire life and never see results! In order to change your fitness level, you have to set goals and adapt your program.
Think about what you want to accomplish and then plan on how you are going to get there. Your goals are within reach, and when you step back and take a look at them, you can help yourself find ways to get there. Setting goals can also be a great motivational tool to keep you dedicated to staying healthy and fit.
There is a simple formula that can help you set them, and it is SMART to follow. Make sure they are Specific, Measurable, Accurate, Realistic, and Timely so they will inspire you into action. Our goals should get us excited and make us feel accomplished---not tired and defeated. Try this method to start: Set a weekly goal and strive to accomplish at least 60 percent of it. At the end of the week, evaluate any obstacles that came up, work to problem-solve them, and then set a new weekly goal based on what you learned. Continue to try your best and you will see continued success.
Last week, I talked about what a huge difference a few choice foods can make in helping your nutrition. All Indianapolis bariatric physicians and Indiana bariatric centers will talk about what a huge part nutrition plays in making bariatric surgery successful.
While knowing which foods are good for weight loss surgery patients is great, it is much easier when you have some delicious recipes to try out! Below are two of my favorites that can spice up salmon and incorporate blueberries.
I know that some of the ingredients can sound different, but trust me. These recipes are very good...and good for you! Don't be afraid to try new things to accompany the new you!
Raspberry Vinaigrette Baked Salmon with Blueberry Salsa
1-2 cups raspberry vinaigrette (Kraft® Light Done Right brand works best)
Zest from ½ an orange
4 salmon filets (3 to 4 oz each)
1 cup fresh spinach leaves
½ red onion, sliced thinly
kosher salt
fresh ground black pepper
4 orange slices
1.) Preheat oven to 400°.
2.) In a small, shallow dish (you could also use a hefty plastic bag) place salmon filets; cover with raspberry vinaigrette and orange zest. Let marinate 30 minutes.
3.) On a baking sheet lined with foil and sprayed with cooking spray, place 4 ( ¼ cup) beds of spinach for the salmon. Top each bed of spinach with 3-4 slices of onion, and a sprinkle of salt and pepper. Remove salmon filets from marinade and lay on beds of spinach (skin side down). Top salmon with salt, pepper, three onion slices, and an orange slice.
4.) Bake until fish flakes easily with a fork, ~15-20 minutes
*General rule: 10 minutes of baking time for every inch of the thickest part of the fish
5.) Remove salmon from oven; let rest 5 – 10 minutes before serving. Serve spinach and salmon with blueberry salsa on top (optional), and enjoy!
